The pain endured by a fish afflicted with parasites or a rat swallowed alive by a snake is no more tolerable than the 'natural' suffering of humans due to malaria, cancer, or starvation." I donate to Vegan Outreach because I want to strengthen the cultural shift toward taking animal suffering seriously. Starting with factory-farmed animals, the seeds of empathy that Vegan Outreach plants will, I hope, eventually blossom into concern for the plight of animals in the wild, even those whose suffering is in no way "our fault." This is important for making sure that our far-future descendants work to reduce wild-animal suffering rather than to multiply it.
